Take your beauty routine with you
Hey, Holiday Beauty
When we go on holidays, we tend to leave routine behind in favour of carefree or ‘that can wait’. And yet, it’s when our skin and hair needs more help than ever! When you travel, the changes in air, water, climate, sun and sleep can all wreak havoc on your skin, leading to dryness, irritation, breakouts, or worse. And we all know what happens when humidity gets to our hair.
With just a little effort, you can still feel free to explore, wander, stop for a spritz on a whim, while maintaining the healthy holiday glow and luscious locks you deserve.
Here are five common holiday beauty woes, and what you can pack to combat them.
Sun exposure
Sunny days are considered a summer holiday essential. But with that comes a lot of extra exposure to those harmful rays. Protect your skin as much as possible – take extra special care through the hottest part of the day when the sun is at its peak – with UV-blocking sunscreen, and chic cover-ups.
Pack: A hat, a sarong that can double as a shoulder wrap, and a good sunscreen. We love the Ultra Violette range of broad-spectrum sunscreens, which includes a reapplication mist for long days out.
Dehydration
We believe the two best things for skin health are: sleep and hydration. Drinking plenty of water helps promote skin elasticity and plumpness, and also aids in flushing out toxins so your skin stays clear and radiant. With travel comes long days, high temperatures and, generally, less attention on drinking water. So make it easier on yourself to keep up your water supply by carrying a refillable water bottle with you.
Pack: a Stojo collapsible water bottle as a chic option that packs down small.
Lack of sleep
Long flights, late nights, unfamiliar rooms: there are multiple factors working against your sleep when you travel. And that means, potentially dull skin, dark circles and more. Do what you can to keep to a routine, get your 7–9 hours per night, and block as many disruptions as possible.
Pack: a Drowsy silk sleep mask (with lash protecting option to nurture your holiday lashes). While it takes up little space, it will do a lot to help you get uninterrupted rest, no matter what.
Saltwater skin
Salt water (in other words: the sea) has a way of naturally cleansing and exfoliating the skin, which can help clear breakouts. But, it can also dehydrate the skin as the salt strips away your natural oils. So, it’s important to rinse off salt water after swimming, and apply a nourishing moisturiser to rehydrate your skin.
Pack: La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Baume for a rich skin-loving balm that also works wonders on long, skin-drying flights.
The humidity frizz
It’s a story as old as time… a glamorous foreign destination, a vacation ‘fit you packed especially, and a head full of frizzy hair. While we can’t remove the humidity from the air, we can help you care for your tresses overnight, and help you tame the extra frizz.
Pack: A silk pillowcase! Think about it… it folds up nice and small, will easily slip over the top of any hotel pillow, and helps to keep your hair silky and your skin smooth and supple. Also handy are our silk scrunchies – a neat way to embrace messy buns or heatless curls, too!
