Coming back from holidays
Beat the post-holiday blues and find your second wind, with these tips
It’s officially the home stretch of the year. We have crested the hill, had our summer holiday fun, and now stare down the barrel of work routines and winter hibernation, until the end of the year holidays. It can be a bit of a hard time, as the sun sets in summer and we settle back into the everyday. So we gathered some tips to help you find your second wind, preserve your health, and make the most of what’s left of 2024.
1- Ease back into your inbox
Coming back to a mountain of unread emails and pending tasks can be daunting. Before it overwhelms you, sort emails by importance, address the urgent ones first, and take your time through the rest. Allocating specific times for checking emails (say, an hour at the end of each day) can help you focus on other things and not let the stress creep in.
2 -Treat yourself
With the wind-down of summer likely comes a lighter social calendar, and more regular nights at home. So take the opportunity to indulge in extra self-care. Buy yourself a new robe. Light a candle and start a new book. Enjoy a face mask before bed to keep skin plump and nourished through the seasonal weather shifts. And spray a deliciously calming scent on your pillow for bedtime.
3- Set new goals
Shifting your mindset towards new things can be invigorating, and ease the summer holiday comedown. Whether it’s work or a personal project, a new goal will give you a sense of purpose – and focus. Make the goal concrete and achievable, with milestones along the way, so you can celebrate the wins and keep the momentum up.
4- Conquer your sleep routine
Good sleep is paramount to feeling and performing your best. It improves your mood, energy levels, and ability to handle stress. Well-rested minds are sharper and more creative. So establishing a solid routine will ensure you thrive through the seasonal changes. Try to go to bed at the same time every night, avoid screens in the evening, and make time for a bedtime meditation or calming breathwork. Then block out the world with a luxurious silk sleep mask.
5- Start planning your end-of-year getaway
Having a new holiday to look forward to helps dissipate the disappointment that your previous one has ended. Pick your destination, and start saving some ideas to help fuel the excitement of what’s to come.
